Numerous gunshots rang out in Bellville over the weekend for a film shoot taking place near the CBD.

The undisclosed movie’s filming took place in the vicinity. A scene was also filmed in Mabel Street, Oakdale.

In a scene, an actor who plays a suspect was chased by a “policeman”.

The Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District VRCID and various neighbourhood watches shared the message beforehand, trying to allay fears that may arise over the weekend.

In real crime matters, on Thursday, 5 November a wallet, iPhones and children’s clothing were stolen at a break-in at a residence in Rust and Vrede Street, Ridgeworth, at around 03:56. Entrance was gained by forcing open a sliding door.

In a street racing operation held on 1 November, in Bellville and Sea Point, the City’s traffic officers arrested seven drag racing suspects, five for driving under the influence and two for reckless driving.

On the same day, metro officers attached to the special operations unit arrested 10 suspects on illegal drug possession charges. Members reacted to a tipoff about illegal drug activities and visited the alleged drug spot. “Upon arrival, several suspects ran into Delmonte Court in Bellville. Officers followed them into a flat on the top floor, where they were arrested along with several more men using khat. Officers confiscated 109 parcels of khat valued at R1 600,” says JP Smith, Mayco member for safety and security.
