VRCID HOLDS SUCCESSFUL AGM TO REFLECT ON ACHIEVEMENTS AND PARTNERSHIPS
On November 19, 2024, the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the New National Hotel in Parow. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past year and express gratitude to the stakeholders who enable the VRCID to make a meaningful impact.
Chairman expresses gratitude to stakeholders
Hardus Zevenster, Chairman of the VRCID, extended his sincerest thanks to the CID levy ratepayers whose financial contributions are vital to the VRCID’s operations. He encouraged all stakeholders to review the annual report to gain insight into the progress made in the past year. Mr. Zevenster also offered a special acknowledgment to the VRCID Board of Directors, who have volunteered their time and expertise to ensure the organization runs smoothly.
Furthermore, Zevenster commended the VRCID staff for their exemplary dedication to maintaining the VRCID area, ensuring it remains clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing while also addressing social relief challenges. “The unwavering dedication of our team, led by Derek Bock, COO, is the foundation of our success,” he emphasized. He also highlighted the effectiveness of City Improvement Districts (CIDs), noting that Cape Town is already home to 55 such initiatives. “This demonstrates that communities and businesses are actively shaping their own future, rather than waiting for the City to implement these transformative efforts,” Zevenster added.
Deputy Mayor praises efforts
Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews also attended the AGM, where he expressed gratitude to the additional ratepayers for supporting the VRCID’s vision. After a personal visit to the VRCID, Andrews commended the team for their excellent work and reaffirmed his commitment to visiting every CID in the city.
Reflections on achievements
COO Derek Bock highlighted the significant accomplishments of the VRCID, achieved despite the constraints of a limited budget. Certificates of appreciation were presented to Securitas staff, SAPS and Law Enforcement officers for their remarkable efforts, as well as to Social Upliftment partners who have played an essential role in the VRCID’s impact.
One of the year’s most notable achievements was the establishment of the Centre of Hope in Parow. This initiative, in partnership with MES, was recognized on an international level and received the Downtown Achievement Award of Excellence from the International Downtown Association (IDA), based in Washington, US.
A unified commitment to community
The VRCID remains dedicated to strengthening communities through innovation, safety enhancements, and sustainable growth. Partnerships with key entities, including the City of Cape Town, SAPS Bellville, SAPS Parow, the Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP), and service provider Securitas, have been instrumental in the implementation of crime prevention strategies and the revitalization of the VRCID area.
As the VRCID looks to the future, it remains committed to its mission of driving positive change and creating a vibrant, safe, and inclusive environment in Bellville and Parow. The VRCID and its partners are working together to build a lasting legacy of collaboration and community impact.
