CONTRACT Employment Opportunity: Work Readiness Supervisor
The VRCID is a non-profit company with the goal to maintain a clean, safe, and sustainable environment within a specific geographical area (Bellville and Parow). The Social Development department is responsible for the coordination and integration of Social Development Services towards adults and children living, working, and begging on the streets. Knowledge and experience in the homeless sector will be an advantage as an applicant.
Please note – This is a 10-month contract position aligned with our work readiness program. There is no guarantee for continued employment after the 10-month contract has ended.
The VRCID Work Readiness Supervisor should possess the following qualities:
Be a highly self-motivated, independent, person-centred individual.
Be punctual, responsible, accountable, and reliable, as you will be the example for many clients, partners, and the social team in their actions and conduct.
Have an engaging, non-judgemental manner focused on motivation and support as forms of people management, integration, and leadership.
We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about the care and protection of the homeless, with an understanding of what the sector entails.
Efficient administrative capacity and experience managing a team of 25+ work readiness beneficiaries.
Commencement date: as soon as possible, but not later than 5 November 2025.
Requirements for the Position:
- Experience/understanding of the homeless sector
- Valid driver’s licence & driving experience required
- Preferably live in the northern suburbs
- After-hours availability for emergencies
- Need to be available in the office from 09h00 to 17h30
- Proficient in MS Office — will be expected to do a lot of admin and reporting
- Ability to work independently
- Strong administration skills
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills
- An excellent work ethic and professional conduct
- Need to be physically able to walk long distances and stairs daily
- Need to be confident in managing beneficiaries’ work performance and compliance with reporting deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
- Lines of reporting
- The male supervisor will report directly to the Social Development Manager and work closely with the program coordinator and social development fieldworker team.
- Administration
- Daily sign-in and sign-out of beneficiaries
- Weekly and monthly reporting
- Coordinate the resources needed for beneficiaries to conduct work (uniforms, cleaning materials, etc.)
- Support in logistical and administrative tasks of the Work readiness PEP and GST projects.
- Monthly statistics to be completed
- Operational support to fieldworker
- Stand-in outreaches to the homeless if required and referrals to necessary NGOs/shelters or other services.
- Operational support to shelters that the VRCID works with.
- Operational support in terms of homelessness to other VRCID staff.
- Responsible for the collection and distribution of donations
- Overall duties
- Lead by example — You will be expected to work along with the teams, to show them quality control and teach them the expected standards of working.
- Support in fieldwork matters when the team is unable to attend to an emergency
- Weekly meetings with the Social Development Manager
- Weekly reporting deadlines to be met
- Refer beneficiaries’ social service needs to the Social Development Manager
- Lead daily JFT
- Ownership of the depot sign-in and sign-out of resources for all work readiness programs.
- Weekly group work at partnering organisations
- Be a mentor and leader to the beneficiaries
